Are oils good to take care of oily skin? Is it enough to remove make-up to keep skin clean? The fact is that a lot of skincare advice just doesn’t work, and some skincare myths can even cause harm. That is why we want to give you the answer to three frequent myths, let’s get to the truth behind it!

Dry skin is not the same as dehydrated skin.

Did you know that dryness refers to a skin type, an dehydration refers to a skin condition? Dry skin lacks oil because it produces less sebum than normal skin, and lack of sebum means the skin lacks the lipids it needs to retain moisture and build a strong protective barrier against external aggressors. Dehydrated skin doesn't have enough water, and common signs of dehydrated skin include redness, lots of congestion and inflammation. To hydrate the skin, go for serums and apply them before your moisturiser.
Experts recommend including products with hyaluronic acid in our routines (such as the MASQMAI platinum creams), as the skin produces it naturally, but supplementing it through skin care is key to treating dehydration. We also cannot forget to stay hydrated by drinking water and consuming fruits and vegetables rich in water and essential fatty acids. As for the treatment of dry skin it is important to maintain good hydration and use products that are not aggressive to the skin. For daily cleansing choose a mild cleanser with moisturising ingredients.

Oils are very beneficial for oily skin (if you choose the right one).

Facial oil offers the advantage of providing extra hydration, as well as improving the absorption of the active ingredients it contains. There are facial oils that are also suitable for oily and combination skin. Vegetable oils have nourishing, protective, softening and regenerating properties for the skin. They usually contain numerous vitamins (A, D, E, F, F, K,...) and fatty acids. They penetrate very well into the skin, to nourish and protect it. If your skin tends to be oily, it is advisable to use a specific oil to take advantage of its sebum-regulating properties.

Simply remove make-up at night to maintain a clean skin.

Pollution and traces of makeup adhere to the skin and do not remain on the surface layer, but they stay in the small imperfections or pores through which the skin breathes, 'suffocating' it and favoring the appearance of blackheads and dehydration. It is one thing to remove makeup and another to remove the dirt that is 'embedded' in the skin at the end of the day and also at night and that is much more difficult to remove. That is why we insist on the importance of cleansing your skin well even if you do not wear makeup.
On the other hand, it is not enough just to cleanse the skin at night, it is also essential to do it in the morning, to remove the excess oil and dirt that has been secreted while sleeping. Finally, a toner should be a must in our routine for 3 main reasons: it helps to remove the last traces of dirt and impurities, regulates the skin’s pH and increases the level of penetrability of the cosmetics applied afterwards, thanks to the activation of the cutaneous microcirculation. Our MASQMAI Purifying Skin Toner is a great option, it keeps skin pores clean and blurs them over time. Its formula contains natural ingredients with antibacterial, soothing and repairing properties. Glycolic acid acts as an exfoliant, improving skin tone and texture.

As you can see, it is important to deepen the myths of skincare, since a small change in our routine can generate a big change in our skin.
