Hyaluronic acid (or HA) is a polysaccharide present in the extracellular matrix of various tissues including the skin, where about 50% of HA is found.
HA as such is a large molecule that is difficult to absorb into the skin. However, if we fragment it, we obtain low and medium molecular weight HA that will reach deeper layers of the epidermis where they stimulate the production of HA and collagen by the skin itself. This helps to reverse the signs of aging.

With age, we lose the ability to produce collagen, elastin, HA. This is why, year after year, skin looks thinner and drier, and less elastic or firm.
